Food Hubs Report
Hudson Valley Food Hubs Initiative Report
The Local Economies Project commissioned a comprehensive study from Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, which engaged Sarah Brannen of Upstream Advisors in its design and implementation.
The study occurs at a time when much of the national focus on local and regional food system development is turning to the need for infrastructure. We sought to identify potential infrastructure challenges that hinder the growth of the local farm economy and to determine whether food hubs could be one means for addressing these challenges.
The report answers three specific questions:
- Are food hubs needed to support and strengthen sustainable agriculture and a regional food value chain in the Hudson Valley?
- Which food hub features would most benefit Hudson Valley farms and communities?
- Who are the potential partners for food hub development in the Hudson Valley?
We released the report in April 2013 and welcome the discussions and collaborations that it will stimulate. Working together with interested partners, we can make dramatic changes happen relatively quickly.
